MoJo Foundation / MoJo Construction Limited is a Gambian Charity and Not-for-profit social enterprise construction company, founded and originally funded by New Meaning.

We have a block making shop at Tabokoto, making and selling compressed red clay blocks as an environmentally friendly and safer alternative to the traditionally used grey cement blocks.

We own 4 hectares (10 acres) of building land in Jambur, Western Region of The Gambia.   Here we are preparing to build 3 and 4 bed modern properties for sale training and employing young adult workers - previously unemployed.

Workers include sponsored graduates or current students at the Gambian Technical Training Institute (GTTI).  250+ new employees will be paid a living wage to receive on-the-job work experience, behavioural, business and skills coaching.  (MoJo translates to "pay the man" in the Mandinka dialect;  it is also formed from the 2 initials of our Founders;  Morro and John).

Surpluses from sales will be reinvested in scholarships, bursaries, further building projects and microfinance to new local businesses.

Our six local Gambian Trustees include a head teacher, a founder / developer of Gambian community schools, a senior bank manager and a respected local accountant - all working closely with Jambur village elders.

We were proud to present our business plan to Dr Isatou Touray, until recently Minister of Trade and Regional Infrastructure, now Vice-President.  Dr Touray was very encouraging and personally very supportive of the project aims.  We await the formal outcome of the Department's analysis of our business plan.
